Question
I would like to know whats the maximum amount you can get in new york for a slip and fall accident on the staten island ferry, and if possible how long would the proceedings take to carry out. (how long it would take to get my money) i was hospitalized with a ankle that was broken in 2 places and had surgery.
Answer
You will have to PROVE that the ferry knew about the condition and could have prevented it. You will also have to PROVE that you were actually injured. If you slipped, fell, and bruised your dignity, then you'll likely just be laughed out of court. Oh, and the courts are much, much more stringent about whiplash/soft tissue damage injuries, because they're very hard to prove. Almost impossible to prove, in fact. Too many people abused this claim. My mother has whiplash damage, and it's caused her a lot of pain, but because she can't prove it, she got very little for it. She got money mostly because the van she was riding in was totalled.
