How much does someone on a court TV show get compensated for their appearance?

Question
I have always wondered why people have their disputes settled on one of those court televison programs and tell all of their personal business. Do these people get substantially compensated for their participation? If I was getting sued I certainly would not want the whole world to know it.
Answer
A combined appearance fee is offered to the litigants. The amount is dependant on the dollar values named in their suits. Any amounts awarded by the judge when the dispute is settled is paid out from this apearance fee to the litigant who prevails, and the remainder of the appearance fee is divided evenly amongst the plaintiff and the defendant.
